Three years ago, mother-daughter duo Darla and Morgan Knight purchased the local Hops Java & Juice on Strawberry Alley and turned a coffee shop that had some deli items into a deli with a coffee bar known as Yada. At that time Darla was quoted saying, “I bought a coffee shop on accident,” but since then there’s been quite a bit of purposeful planning into developing the Yada concept into the local deli Clarksvillians love to frequent. The mother-daughter duo is excited to announce the restaurant is now expanding on purpose, with a new 4,500-square-foot home for Yada at 111 Franklin St. in downtown Clarksville, which opens for breakfast, lunch and coffee shop favorites today.
“This expansion is about more than square-footage,” said Morgan Knight, the daughter-half of Yada’s mother-daughter owner duo. “While we are thrilled to offer more seating for our customers, our new space will also come with expanded hours in the coming weeks, along with a full-fledged craft cocktail program and Clarksville first wood-fired pizza oven.”
The same quality breads sourced from Los Angeles, the fresh bagels from New York and house made baked goodies that customers love will still be on the menu, and the new coffee and bar program expansions will demonstrate Yada’s commitment to serving the best quality products. Yada’s coffee bar will serve Stay Golden coffee, representing the Nashville-based-coffee-roaster’s first outside partnership. Their new bar program will launch soon and feature boutique wines from another Clarksville mother-daughter duo’s Premier Crush, as well as premium house liquors and craft cocktails. Seasonal frozen drink specials such as frosé and bushwackers will also be on rotation.
New quality additions are still on the horizon, with plans to offer full-service dinner with handcrafted pastas, wood-fired pizzas and a cicchetti menu launching in the coming weeks. Yada will be Clarksville’s first cicchetti restaurant, introducing the area to the popular Venetian small plate way of familial dining.
In addition to the café and lounge-area’s 88 seats, Yada offers a private dining room for groups of up to 40 people, just beyond the gorgeous blue-and-gold mural painted by successful local artist Ola. The ability to serve larger groups was an important addition, as Yada is a very relationship centric gathering place.
Darla Knight expands on this by adding, “We want to create a backdrop for you and your people. Yada is Yiddish term that is filler for ‘you know what I’m saying because of our relationship and the actual words aren’t even necessary.’ Those relationships you have with ‘your people’ are what life is about, and we get to be the background noise to those connections happening in real time.”
