Vanderbilt University Unveils $300 Million Athletics Expansion Plans
Vanderbilt University has unveiled new renderings for a $300 million athletics expansion as part of the next phase of its Vandy United campaign.
The university released the first look at several major projects planned for its Nashville campus, including a new football experience center, a soccer and lacrosse stadium, and multiple upgrades to existing athletic facilities. This phase marks a significant step forward as the campaign celebrates its five-year anniversary and continues toward its $300 million fundraising goal.

A centerpiece of the expansion is the planned football experience center, which will build upon the existing indoor practice field. The new facility will include enhanced training, recovery, coaching, and administrative spaces, while also serving as a flagship hub within the Frist Athletics Village. The goal is to create a comprehensive environment that blends athletics, education, and fan experience.
The university is also planning a new Olympic Sports Performance complex, which will serve as the home for Vanderbilt’s soccer and lacrosse programs. The facility will feature dedicated locker rooms and shared resources to support multiple teams.
Upgrades are also underway for several current facilities. Hawkins Field is already seeing construction improvements, including new amenities and premium seating options. Meanwhile, the Lummis Family Tennis Center will expand its indoor capabilities following recent outdoor renovations.
Beyond athletics, plans include enhancements along Jess Neely Drive, where new food vendors, retail kiosks, and pop-up installations are expected to create a more vibrant game-day and campus atmosphere.
This expansion comes during a period of momentum for Vanderbilt Athletics, highlighted by football head coach Clark Lea earning SEC Coach of the Year honors.
In addition to athletic investments, Vanderbilt is pursuing broader growth initiatives, including a proposed 40-acre mixed-use innovation district on the southwest edge of campus. The university is also expanding nationally with new satellite campuses in New York City, West Palm Beach, and San Francisco, signaling a larger vision for its future both in Nashville and beyond.
