Men in Blazers, a collaboration of the English duo Roger Bennett and Michael Davies, is a weekly podcast and NBCSN television show about Premier League and international soccer. The show is driven by the belief that soccer is America’s Sport of the Future and has been since 1972.
The two sports broadcasters met at a mutual friend’s wedding reception in New York while the final match of the 2006 World Cup was happening. Bennett mentions in their book, “Encyclopedia Blazertannica,” that he had just seen Zinedine Zidane sent off in extra time for head-butting Marco Materazzi but had to leave before the penalty shootout at his wife’s request. When he was at the wedding, he noticed Davies sulking, who at the time was a contributing writer for ESPN, and so he decided to strike up a conversation with him.
The Men In Blazers podcast was born and started on the Grantland network before ESPN included the show during their 2014 World Cup coverage. The show made its debut on NBCSN television on Sept. 22, 2014, and now streams live on NBCSports.com and the NBC Sports Live Extra app, iTunes, Spotify, SoundCloud, and all major podcasting apps.
