Investigation continues into body found inside vehicle at tow yard
Nashville Police Department Criminal Investigations Division Violent Crimes Unit (VCU) detectives continue their investigation into human remains found inside a vehicle at a local tow yard on Thursday, May 1.
The deceased man was found in the back of his locked 2007 Hummer HU3 on a sleeping mat. The SUV had been towed from Walmart to E.A. Towing on Southpointe Court on April 5, after it was reported abandoned. The Hummer’s windows were covered with black-out material, making it difficult to see inside. The back seat, where the body was found, was laid flat and could not be seen from looking through the front window.
On Thursday, tow company employees approached the Hummer after completing a tow lien, since no one claimed the vehicle. They saw flies and smelled an odor coming from the rear of the vehicle, used a lock-out tool to open the doors, discovered the remains, and notified the police.
An autopsy has been requested to determine the cause of death and how long the man had been deceased.
E.A. Towing is not suspected of any wrongdoings. Both the towing company and Walmart are fully cooperating with the investigation.
VCU detectives continue to investigate the incident.
