Introducing Nashville-Via-London Duo Ida Mae; New Single “If You Don’t Love Me” Out Now Via Thirty Tigers

On Tour with Blackberry Smoke This Spring

Husband and wife duo Ida Mae (Chris Turpin and Stephanie Jean), have shared their new single “If You Don’t Love Me”, produced by Ethan Johns and released via Thirty Tigers today. Starting off simply with Chris’ sweet vocals accompanied on guitar, the song gradually builds into a crescendo of pure bliss. Stephanie’s vocals beautifully weave over the top of Chris’ falsetto resulting in a balanced, elegant sound. Ida Mae will be joining Blackberry Smoke on their Break It Down tour this spring. See below for a full list of 2019 dates.

“This is one of the first songs we wrote for the record,” the duo said of the new single. “Ethan encouraged us to perform very intimate vocal takes, everyone playing live side by side in the same room late at night. ‘If You Don’t Love Me’ embodies the simplicity and honesty of the record as a whole. We worked to marry uncommon sonic textures on the record, spanning the decades of our influences. This can be heard in the organic sound of my 1930s National Duolian steel guitar and a 1980s digital auto harp.”
Ida Mae’s magic lies in the sensuous dovetailing of two voices and the intimacy of their songs. Chris’ vocals are reminiscent of a Face’s era Rod Stewart or Steve Marriott, while Stephanie combines the delicacy of Patty Griffin with the effortless rock-chic of Alison Mosshart. Singing together, the couple have an unusual ‘which-is-which’ dynamic.
After finding critical acclaim with Kill It Kid, touring the world as newlyweds and working closely with legendary A&R man Seymour Stein, Chris and Stephanie have recently finished recording their debut album with acclaimed producer and friend Ethan Johns (Ryan Adams / Ray Lamontagne / Kings Of Leon / Laura Marling) which is set to be released in early Summer of 2019 through Thirty Tigers.
Touring highlights as Ida Mae include support slots with Greta Van Fleet, The Marcus King Band, The Lone Bellow, Nick Mulvey, Nikki Lane, and Will Varley. They have also played Emmylou Harris’s Woofstock Festival & Kings Of Leon’s Harvest Night in Nashville.
