Interview: Recording Artist, Adam Craig, Talks New Single “If You’re Lucky”

"I write about life, the ups and downs and in-betweens. I start with an idea that relates to me, then think of a melody, and run with it."

Is there anyone in your family that you can credit as being instrumental in your decision to go into the music field? My mom. She saw talent in me at a young age. She convinced me to move to Nashville. In 2013, I was close to quitting music altogether, and she encouraged me to keep at it. Four months later I got my record deal.

You just released your new single “If You’re Lucky.” Congrats! How are people responding to it? People are responding to it the same way I did. It’s so relatable. It’s like a highlight reel of growing up in a small town.

Explain your songwriting process. I write about life, the ups and downs and in-betweens. I start with an idea that relates to me, then think of a melody, and run with it.

You have already co-written a ton of hits. Is there anyone that you are dying to collaborate with? Tim McGraw. And Dr. Dre. 😉

You were also named as one of Rolling Stone’s “10 New Country Artists You Need To Know.” How does that feel? Any time a publication like Rolling Stone gives you recognition, it’s such an honor. Knowing that I could possibly gain new fans through that exposure is so exciting.

What drew you to country music? Has it always been country music? Country music related to how I grew up. While I enjoyed all types of music, country music was the best medium at telling my story – and it still is.

What excites you most about the Nashville music scene right now? Getting to write and collaborate with the best songwriters in the world.
