Morgan Wallen’s ‘I’m The Problem’ Breaks Apple Music Record
On May 16th, ‘I’m The Problem‘ by Morgan Wallen broke the record for biggest country album of 2025 by first-day streams worldwide on Apple Music.
Morgan Wallen tells Apple Music he sees some of himself at a young age in his son Indigo
Yeah. I mean, I would imagine that he’s going to have a lot of those same things. I’m sure I’m going to get paid back quite a bit and that’s fine. I think it’s hilarious, at least I do right now. I don’t know what I’ll think in five years, but it’s funny right now.
Morgan Wallen tells Apple Music what he wanted to say with the title of his album I’m The Problem
I mean, I think it’s just at this point in my life, to me, and I’ve said this maybe before, but this feels like… I don’t know the future. I don’t know, I’m really taking things day by day, but it feels like… Just the way that my life has taken me and where I’m at as a man, it just seems like it might be the last time that I really get to honestly say that as a person. So I think it’s me. I’ve always prided myself in taking accountability for what I do, and this is just a big stamp on that for me.
Morgan Wallen tells Apple Music his song “Superman” off his new album I’m The Problem is a message to his son Indigo about his troubled past
You’re going hear about it and there’s no way around that, especially at this position that I’m in and that he’s going to be in. So that was kind of what I wanted to accomplish too. And then in the second verse, I wanted to let him know that, “Hey, everybody ain’t nice. Everybody don’t want your best interest, and I’m going to do my best to protect you, but at some point you’re going to have to protect yourself.” And there’s a lot of different things that I felt like I was trying to, not only let him know where I fall short, but also give him advice, let him know I’m protecting him. I tried to say a lot in that one song just because it’s really my only song to him at this point.
Morgan Wallen tells Apple Music how fame has made him more guarded about who he trusts
Yeah, I think I learned that lesson a lot. I mean, you’d think I’d have learned it after one time, but it might’ve just taken me a little more than it should have. But also just there was times where I just didn’t really care. I just did whatever I wanted and whatever. But you get older, you have a kid, and you start thinking about how that starts impacting other people and not just yourself. I think whenever he was born, I started really looking at the world in that way. Like, “Man, I got to be careful who I hang out with. I got to be careful who…” These people just have a lot of… Not everyone, everyone is not users, but there’s a lot of them. I’d say the majority are. So you learn to be able to distinguish pretty easily. And I mean, at this point, I’m going to assume the worst in everyone pretty much, to be honest. I mean, that’s just… the way it is. I’m going to assume you’re shitty, and if you prove me wrong, awesome. But good luck.
Morgan Wallen tells Apple Music about the songs “Genesis” and “Revelation” off his new album I’m The Problem
Revelation came in first. I didn’t write Revelation. I did write Genesis. So they sent in Revelation. I love that song. I love everything it said. And then I’m just, “Why can’t we write a Genesis song? And then how would you write a Genesis song? What would it mean?” And all that stuff. How do you do that without sounding cheesy, without sounding too biblical, without sounding… All that stuff. So we didn’t even have the actual hook for Genesis. We knew that we wanted to call it Genesis. I knew I didn’t want Genesis to be the hook. So we just started from the top, making those Adam and Eve, Jack and Jim and all that; all those references. And then just finally ended up at the hook of that song and, Let There be Lemon. Let there be whiskey.” So I enjoyed writing it that way. That was something that we don’t normally do. We usually have the hook before we start anything else. So it was cool to write it that way.
Morgan Wallen tells Apple Music what he and Keith Whitley have in common and what’s behind the song “Miami,” a nod to Whitley on his new album I’m The Problem
I mean, we’re from a similar area. I think we probably… I grew up listening to Bluegrass. I think that in and of itself just makes me love him. I mean, I just think he’s the pure best vocalist in country music ever. I think that’s really all there is to it. And I love just the sadness and heartbreak and stuff that was in his songs. I think obviously that guy, it
seems like he was in a lot of pain and I don’t know, I just seem to empathize with people like that. And then you throw his vocal and those songs on top of it, I mean, it’s just incredible … I already know I’m going to get crucified for that song, but I don’t know. It is fun. And I mean… I don’t know. I enjoyed it. And me and the boys writing it, we had a good time writing it. I mean, in my own way, I’m not going to go do… I don’t know. I’m not going to do a Keith Whitley cover probably. I would feel… I don’t know. I don’t feel right doing that. This is my own way of paying my respect, and if that offends people, then I don’t really care, but I would assume it will.
Morgan Wallen talks to Apple Music about his song “I’m A Little Crazy” off his new album I’m The Problem and the line “I’m a coyote in a field of wolves”
That’s my favorite line. At times in my life, I haven’t felt like I was invited. And to me, that’s what that line says, is like, “Hey, I know I wasn’t invited, but I’m still eating and I’m still fed.” And that’s really what that line says to me, and I think that’s why it’s my favorite.
Morgan Wallen tells Apple Music about the letter his dad wrote to him that is featured in the liner notes of his new album I’m The Problem
Yeah. I knew he was going to do it, but I mean, I didn’t give him any direction on what to say or anything like that. He probably was caught off guard by me even asking him to do something. I’ve never had a book like this or anything like that for album release, so this was something new for all of us, but he’s the preaching background and stuff, so he knows how to write a little bit, and he did better than I even thought he would.
Morgan Wallen tells Apple Music whether or not he was surprised by anything his dad wrote in his letter to him that is featured in the liner notes of his new album I’m The Problem
No, I don’t think it surprised me. Me and him have been really, really honest and open with each other for the last 13 years, I guess now. Pretty much as soon as I moved out, that’s when our relationship improved dramatically. So yeah, no, I think he became more of my friend and advisor at that point. So no, I don’t think I was surprised.
Morgan Wallen answers Apple Music’s question about what he would consider the happiest song on his new album I’m The Problem
That’s a good question. Happiest? Well, obviously, I Got Better. I Got Better is one of my favorite songs on the album, and it’s got a little bit of angst, a little bit… a smart alack I like to have in it, but that one feels appropriate to me. Don’t We, is happy… I’m trying to think of what I would consider the most…that one just feels American to me. I mean, I think there’s a lot of feelings on this album, and I think there’s… Happy is not the one I do the best normally when it comes to an artist, but I think we got it. We snuck a few in there.
